Overview
How an AI agent connects to your vault: add the MCP address, sign in, approve. Guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code and more.
WhyVault speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI agents use to access tools and data. You don't install anything: your agent connects to your vault via an address and signs in once.
The address for every agent: https://mcp.whyvault.io – you'll also find it in the app under Connect agents.
How a connection works
- You add the address to your agent (see the guides below).
- The agent opens a WhyVault sign-in window. You sign in and approve access.
- Done. The agent can read and write. The connection appears in the app under Connect agents. There you decide whether it may also delete (off by default), and you can revoke it at any time.
Agents without a sign-in window (such as Claude Code or Cursor) can alternatively connect with an access key you create in the app – read-only if you like.
What the agent does first
On first access the agent reads your vault's overview and the files in 9_System/. They say who you are, how things should sound and what it may do. After that it searches and reads specifically instead of loading everything.
